If there are two groups of people that deserve an extra dose of gratitude, it’s moms and military spouses. And while these special people are worthy of great admiration every day, in May, we make it “official” by celebrating Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Mother’s Day.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day was established by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 to honor the contributions and sacrifices that military wives and husbands make every day to support our troops. They are unsung heroes who are an anchor to their families during challenging and stressful times such as a deployment or PCS. Military spouses play an important role in the community and make it possible for service members to concentrate on the job of serving America.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day is always celebrated the Friday before Mother’s Day. This year, it falls on Friday, May 11, and Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 13. The two holidays go hand-in-hand as they both focus on honoring loved ones and recognizing all that they do.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day is Friday, May 11. This is a day to celebrate the unsung heroes who support our nation’s troops and are an anchor to their families.
