Frequently Asked Questions: Military Personal Loans

Applying for a personal loan can come with a lot of unknowns, especially the first time. Below are the questions we hear most often from service members and military families before they apply, answered plainly so you know what to expect.

What credit score do I need to qualify? Omni looks at more than just your credit score. Our lowest rate, as low as 19.99% APR, is available to well-qualified borrowers with a FICO score of 675 or higher, but applicants with less-than-perfect credit may still qualify, just potentially at a higher rate within our range.

What are my odds of approval? Approval depends on your credit history, income, and existing debt, and we evaluate each application individually rather than applying a blanket cutoff. Omni’s process is built specifically for military pay, including LES and RAS income documentation, which means service members sometimes qualify with us in situations where a conventional lender might say no.

How fast can I receive my loan funds? The fastest way to receive your loan funds is to elect for same-day funding via the Omni Debit Card. If you prefer, you can also choose direct deposit, which can take up to 3 business days.

How much can I borrow? Loan amounts range from $500 to $10,000, depending on your creditworthiness, income, and repayment capacity. Not every applicant will qualify for the full $10,000, and you are never required to borrow the maximum you are approved for.

Is there a penalty for paying off my loan early? No. Omni does not charge prepayment penalties. If your financial situation improves and you want to pay off your loan ahead of schedule, you are free to do so without any added fees.

Do I need collateral to qualify? No. Omni personal loans are unsecured, meaning you do not need to put up your car, home, or any other asset to qualify.

Who is eligible to apply? Omni accepts applications from active duty service members, Active Reserve and Guard members, Career Retired military personnel (20 or more years of honorable service), and Department of Defense employees, across every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

What documents will I need? For active duty applicants, Omni requires an End of Month LES to begin processing your application. Retired or Reserve applicants typically provide a RAS or similar income document. Once received, you will be assigned a Credit Specialist to guide you through the rest of the process.

Are there limits on interest rates for military borrowers? Yes. Under the Military Lending Act, covered borrowers cannot be charged more than a 36% Military Annual Percentage Rate (MAPR) on most consumer loans. Omni’s rates range from 19.99% to 35.99% APR, comfortably within that legal limit.

What can I actually use the loan for? Whatever you need it for. Omni personal loans are not restricted to a specific purpose, so whether it is a PCS expense, debt consolidation, home improvement, or something else entirely, the funds are yours to use as you see fit.
