10th Annual Honor Day at Eagle Oaks

10th Annual Honor Day at Eagle Oaks

On May 24, Omni Financial® participated in the 10th Annual Honor Day, which took place at Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club in Farmingdale, NJ.  This event, traditionally held on the Thursday before Memorial Day, welcomes and honors the brave service members from all military branches and features a golf tournament, dinner banquet and many other activities.  Joseph Cary, the founder of Honor Day, created this event as a way to deliver “an unbelievable thank you to the men and women who serve our country.”

This year Honor Day hosted more than 350 active duty service personnel, many of whom were in the New York tri-state area for Fleet Week. In addition to recognizing these courageous men and women, the event raised more than $275,000 for Hope For The Warriors, a national non-profit organization that, according to its website, “provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families that are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to community resources.”
Military personnel enjoyed a day of fun and relaxation at the beautiful golf and country club.  The golf tournament took place from 11:30 am to 5 pm on the championship golf course that was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Johnny Miller.
Joining the service members in the morning were more than 300 children from local schools. The children had an opportunity to meet the military personnel and to learn about military technologies and the hands-on applications of real-life scenarios. Education is one of the main principles of Honor Day.  Joseph Cary said Honor Day educates “our youth to carry forward patriotism and understand what the military do to protect lives.”  Watch this video featuring Cary explaining more about the importance of Honor Day’s educational component.
One of the day’s highlights was an appearance by the West Point Parachute Team who arrived in dramatic fashion by jumping out of a helicopter and landing on the golf course.
Closing out this extraordinary event was a dinner banquet for service members, club members, friends and family. The keynote speaker was Lieutenant General Michael Flynn who has served in the U.S. Army for more than 30 years.
This year’s Honor Day theme was “A Decade of Hope,” a nod to the event’s tenth year in existence. Omni Financial was proud to participate in this event, that since its inception, has raised more than $500,000 for Hope For The Warriors.
