As we enter a new normal together, July 4th is a time for celebrating America’s birthday with fun, friends, and fireworks. If you are hosting an Independence Day get together, use these tips to have an awesome all-American time on a budget. With a little bit of planning, you can throw a patriotic party that will be a red, white, and blue blast! We hope you have fun and stay safe at the same time this season.
Shop at the Commissary
Food and beverages can take a big bite out of your party budget. Fortunately, your military status gives you the benefit of being able to shop at the commissary. Stock up on burgers, hot dogs, buns, side dishes, snacks, and drinks, and save an average of over 30% when compared to commercial prices. Use coupons when you shop to save even more.
Throw a Potluck
The next time your guests ask if they can bring something to your party, say yes! Have a potluck party and ask one person to bring a salad, another to bring a side dish, someone else to bring a dessert or a bottle of wine, etc. A potluck is a great opportunity to serve a diverse selection of items and save a lot of money and food preparation time too.
DIY 4th of July Decorations
Add a patriotic touch to your party décor with decorations you make yourself. Get inspired by these amazing ideas: Buy red, white, and blue tablecloths from the dollar store and tie them together to create a bunting. Use food coloring, rice, and a mason jar to make this easy votive candle holder. String, duct tape, and a scissor are all you need to put together this colorful banner. Keep it Simple (and Delicious)
Spend more time enjoying your guests and less time cooking and worrying about excessive costs by keeping your menu simple. Foods like chicken, steak, and shrimp are wonderful but can be expensive, especially if you are cooking for a larger group. If you are having a barbeque, limit the choices to traditional favorites such as hamburgers and hot dogs. Do the same for your drink selection. Offer your guests water, lemonade or iced tea, and a punch or signature cocktail. Need some ideas? Here are some recipes for fun red, white, and blue cocktails.
Dig for Dollar Store Buys
The costs of cups, plates, cutlery, and napkins can really add up. The dollar store is a good place to look for bargains. Buy items in colors that are suitable for other events and occasions throughout the year, in case you have leftovers. For example, red plates can be used for Christmas parties.
Happy 4th of July to all of America’s heroes! Thank you for serving our country and preserving our freedom. Don’t forget to have fun and stay safe at the same time.
